Proteomics and Systems Biology Research Bursary Fund

The Proteomics and Systems Biology Research Bursary Fund has been established to provide assistance to scientists working in disciplines such as medicine, plant science, animal science, microbiology and other biological sciences to access the unique analytical and identification capabilities and services of the Manitoba Centre for Proteomics and Systems Biology (MCPSB). The Fund will provide assistance to access the capabilities of the MCPSB, both technical as well as material, for new or start up projects and to provide proof of principal or key reagents to limited scope projects to further advance them. Priority will be given to new appointees and individuals with demonstrated financial needs.

The Proteomics and Systems Biology Research Bursary Fund is a $90,000 ($30,000/year for 3 years) fund that was established in May 2007. The Bursary will provide funds to access the capabilities of the MCPSB to undertake proof of concept research which could assist in strengthening the recipients' research and potentially increase Manitoba's share of competitive grant funding at the national and international level.

Guidelines:

Funding will be provided to offset up to 50% of the costs for sample analysis/preparation by the MCPSB (as outlined in Appendix 1) to a maximum of $3,000 per investigation. The "research bursary" is open to researchers associated with the following academic institutions: University of Brandon, University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Clearly defined project
  2. Availability of material for analysis
  3. Will supplement at up to 50% of costs (dependent on need and
scope of project) with a $3,000 maximum limit per investigation.
  4. Priority will be given to new researchers or those with demonstrated
    funding constraints.

Recipients are expected to provide feed back on the impact of the Bursary on:

  • Grant success
  • Publications
  • Presentations
